Training and Exposure Visit to UTM, Malaysia

Under the MoU between BUET and UTM, Malaysia a group of final year students (26) from the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, BUET went to visit UTM, Malaysia for their practical training at the Towing Tank of the Dept. of Marine Technology from 7th to 14th March 2012. The program was sponsored by Ananda Shipyard and Slipways Ltd. Dicount air-tickets were provided by United Airways.

Meeting with Joint UN/IMO and Norwegian delegation

A meeting with Joint UN/IMO and Norwegian delegation was held on 14 November 2011 at 9:30 am at the dept of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. After presentation on "Steels" by Prof. Dr. Md. Aminul Islam, Head of the department of MME and "Green Ship Recycling" by Dr. N. M. G. Zakaria, Associate Professor, Dept. of NAME, a discussion on the topics was held. Then the delegates came to the dept. of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Nikos Mikelis, Marine Environment Division, International Maritime Organization (IMO) presented on 'BANGLADESH PROJECT FOR THE SAFE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND RECYCLING OF SHIPS'.

A MoU between BV & NAME, BUET

Bureau Veritas (BV), France a leader in the field of Ship and Offshore Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering for R & D programs. These programs related to hydrodynamic Analysis of ship and Offshore Structures, safe Design of marine Units and Structures and Incorporation of Environmental Issues in the Design of marine Units and Strcutures. BV agreed to provide their high end softwares (HydroStar and MARS) to NAME department for the purpose of academic and research. The cooperative research program includes development, validation and comparison with programs and softwares, comparison with model test results for the common interested topics related to naval architecture and Ocean Engineering.
