BMLS and ANAMEB Organize Certificate Program on Maritime Law and Insurance at BUET
A specialized three-day short certificate course on "Introduction to Maritime Law and Marine Insurance for Marine Professionals" was conducted from August 27th to 29th, 2025, at the Seminar Room of the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). This program was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Maritime Law Society (BMLS) and the Association of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers, Bangladesh (ANAMEB).
The course commenced at 2:30 PM on August 27th, with the inaugural speech delivered by Engr. Saiful Islam, President of ANAMEB. The Chief Guest for the event, Prof. Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BUET, graced the occasion with his presence. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Md. Mashiur Rahaman, Head of the Department of NAME, BUET, was present as the Special Guest at the opening ceremony. The program attracted active participation from postgraduate students, faculty members, and a diverse group of marine professionals.
Over the course of three days, five sessions were conducted, covering critical topics such as Maritime Law for Marine Professionals, IMO Conventions and their Implementation, Marine Insurance, Shipping Documents and their Legal Implications, and the Law of Carriage of Goods and International Trade. A comprehensive test, based on the course content, was held at 3:00 PM on August 29th, with all participants taking part.
The closing ceremony followed the test, where certificates were awarded to the top three participants who achieved the highest marks. Mr. Justice AFM Abdur Rahman (Retd.), a distinguished judge of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh (High Court Division), served as the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony.
The event was a resounding success, offering valuable insights into maritime law and insurance, providing marine professionals with essential knowledge to navigate the complex legal and regulatory frameworks of the marine sector.
